Join me at ISTE 2015

The time has come for one of my favorite events of the year... ISTE 2015!  This year, the conference will be held in Philadelphia, PA.  Some folks might think that going to a conference isn't real "work!"  Well, to them I say, "You've never seen ME at a conference!"  I get teased unmercifully about how rabidly I go at a conference... and ISTE especially.  I chomp at the bit to get an early start, which is totally against my nature, and I go until I can barely put one foot in front of the other in the evening.  A couple of years ago in San Antonio, TX, my group was worried about me because I had not returned to the hotel by 7:30pm.  Now they know better.  It's just MaryAnn in ISTE-mode.

ISTE is the place where I go to recharge my professional batteries.  I am like a big old sponge, soaking up everything I can hear.  I truly am a lifelong learner and this is my biggest chance of the year to learn something new!  So if you see me in Philadelphia, don't say I didn't warn you.  Don't get in my way or you may get trampled!  Come join me, and let's learn something together!

Farewell to a friend... Gone too soon!

It is with a heavy heart that I announce that as of April 3, 2015, InfuseLearning will be no more.  Released as a free tool, they came to the realization that they could not live up to their own expectations for technology you could count on in a classroom.  Here is the announcement in their own words:  Closing Time.

In leaving us, the do suggest some alternative free tools for formative assessment in the classroom.  This Pinterest Board lists several tools you may want to consider.

Join me in wishing the folks from InfuseLearning best wishes as they move on to their next venture.  It's folks like them, who truly believe in bringing exciting, new tools into the classroom, that will make the future of education bright!

We will miss you!

And.... curtain.

#WONtheInternet

Yesterday, the FCC passed a strong ruling to recognize broadband as a Title II communications service.  This is exactly the net neutrality ruling that many of us were hoping for, helping to ensure an open, free Internet.  Big cable companies wanted to limit what we could do and see online, but despite their lobbying efforts where they spent millions of  dollars, WE WON!

Use the hashtag in the picture to help celebrate and take part in this grass-roots movement to keep the Internet accessible to all!

Jumping back in the #CDL_MOOCEd pool

I've done this before, but life always tends to get in the way and my eager beginning attitude wains with time.  I end up dropping out and slinking into the shadows to disappear from my MOOC-mates.  Not this time!  I vow to stay tuned in and turned on to this new opportunity to connect with like-minded educators from around the world.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, take a link over to NCSU's The Friday Institute Coaching Digital Learning-MOOCEd page and register.  It just started today, so it's not too late to join in!
